Director of Public Health
This is a Department Head level position, under general supervision of the Board of Health, working collaboratively with the Executive Department, and in accordance with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts statutes and City Ordinances, the Director of Public Health is responsible for providing professional, administrative, technical and inspection work in planning and managing the municipal public health programs, disease control programs, promotion of sanitary conditions, protection of the environment from damage and pollution and in enforcing public health laws; operates the City’s solid waste operations. Comprehensive knowledge of the practices and administration of public health.
Extensive knowledge of the applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations relative to environmental and public health.
Comprehensive knowledge of the state sanitary codes.
Knowledge of community needs assessment, resources and organizations related to public health.
Thorough knowledge of approved methods and equipment used in handling food and milk.
Thorough knowledge of current inspection and disease control procedures.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, public health, natural science, physical science, or related field; five (5) years of progressively responsible experience; Master’s Degree preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be a Certified Health Officer and Registered Sanitarian.
Must possess or be eligible to obtain the following certifications: Lead Paint Determinator/Inspector, Soil Evaluator, Certified Pool Operator, Food Protection Manager Certification and Septic System Inspector.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
